Assessor receives full accreditation

GREENFIELD – City Assessor Kimberly Mew recently received her full accreditation and appointment from the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers (MAAO).

According to the MAAO, “To earn this award, assessors must successfully complete rigorous educational programs, pass exams, and agree to adhere to a code of ethics. In order to maintain a designation, the holders of the designation must complete 45 hours of further training every three years. “

Mew completed intensive courses on topics such as valuation management (laws, procedures and valuation), principles of valuation processes, comparable sales approach to value, fundamentals of real estate valuation, income approach to valuation and valuation management, according to a press release from Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s office.

“I am delighted to receive this official appointment from MAAO, am grateful to have completed the initial coursework, and look forward to maintaining the credits required for the position,” Mew said in the press release. “I would like to thank the city, Mayor Wedegartner and especially my family for the incredible support.”

“Kim continues to be a great addition to the City of Greenfield,” added Finance Director Liz Gilman. “This designation reflects eight years of experience in the appraisal office and the hard work in courses and seminars.”

Library hosting a look-alike competition for pets and owners

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Public Library is hosting a pet and owner competition this summer.

The competition has five categories: cutest, funniest, fluffiest, cuddly and grumpiest. According to a press release from the Greenfield Public Library, pet owners who submit their book-themed photos (e.g. favorite literary figure, book cover, famous author) will be awarded additional points.

The closing date for photos is Monday, August 9th, 5:00 p.m. Participants can submit their photos at The winners will receive gift certificates to local businesses.

Greenfield student doing Maine Dean’s List

GREENFIELD – Rachael Abbey of Greenfield has been added to the University of Maine’s Dean’s List for the spring semester.
