Morocco Temple Association Inc. sold the Morocco Shrine Temple building, which hosts social gatherings, weddings, fairs, holiday events, and even the grunge band Nirvana, to Town Center East on Nov. 11 for $ 16.48 million Acquisition LLC of Atlantic Beach.
The property is 37 acres at 3800 St. Johns Bluff Road S. The deed was recorded on November 30th.
The exhibition hall was built in 1985 and expanded in 1990.
The Klotz Group of Companies and KBR Group announced in October 2021 that they would demolish the 100,000-square-foot building to make way for The Village at Town Center.
Early plans say the mixed-use project will include residential units, commercial and office uses, a hotel, and recreational space.
This includes a 1,025-unit mix of luxury and market-price apartments, residences for people aged 55 and over, student dormitories and a five-story hotel.
15 buildings were planned. Planned amenities include a BBQ deck, lawn play area, exercise materials, food trucks, picnic areas, open lawns, and shaded areas.
Retail, office space and a restaurant will take up 2.6 hectares.
The city council approved the rededication and a large-scale change of land use for the site on September 14, with a 16-0 vote.
The property had been divided into low-density zones and planned residential units and was converted into another PUD.
Land use has been switched from public buildings and facilities to regional commercial space and low-density housing.
Construction is expected to start in 2022.
