From Saturday through Monday, two sales tax breaks – the Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday and the Sales Tax Test for Water Efficient Products – run simultaneously. Throughout the weekend, Texas shoppers can save money on certain energy and water saving products.
Both sales tax holidays last from Saturday, May 29, 12:01 a.m. to Monday, May 31, 11:59 p.m.
The Texas Comptroller Office estimates that customers in Texas will save approximately $ 13.4 million in state and local sales taxes over the weekend.
“Obsolete water systems and inefficient equipment, as well as triple-digit temperatures, can put huge strains on our water supplies and power grids,” said Glenn Hegar, Texas Comptroller, in a press release. “By taking advantage of this sales tax vacation, Texans can make upgrades that help ease those pressures and lower their utility bills – while saving money on state and local sales taxes.”
There is no limit to the number of qualifying products a buyer can purchase tax-free. For more information on Sales Tax Leave for Water Efficient Products or Sales Tax Leave for ENERGY STAR, please visit the Comptroller’s website.

During the holiday season, shoppers can purchase any product that has a WaterSense label or logo on it, tax-free. These items can be purchased for either personal or business use. Texans can also purchase certain water-saving products tax-free during the holiday season. Unlike WaterSense® labeled items, these items are only tax exempt if you purchased them for use in a home.
