Passerby fatally stabbed with scissors trying to break up father-son fight, witness says

A person who died after an attack in Hamilton was stabbed to death with scissors, a witness says.

Police were called to the apartment building after a fight broke out on Roy Street in Nawton at 11am on Saturday.

A neighbor, who asked not to be named, said a man fought with his father all morning before police arrived.

“He cursed and started throwing bottles at him … he’s always abusing his father.”

A passer-by, seeing the abuse, stopped to help the old man but eventually got involved.

“He tried to calm him down but the man was stabbed with scissors.”

She knew there were kids in the car and the man lived just down the street.

“It’s pretty tragic. Poor family,” said the woman.

Detective Inspector Daryl Smith said the person was treated by ambulances but unfortunately died at the scene.

One person has been taken into custody and is assisting police in their investigation, he said

The family were seen comforting each other outside the property on Saturday afternoon when police investigators arrived.

The section of road had been cordoned off.

A black Ford Escape parked next to the house had also been taped up.

An investigation is underway.
