MARQUETTE, Michigan (WLUC) – The demolition of a property on Third Street in Marquette between Blackrocks Brewery and Blue Link is complete.
According to Brian Bloch, who purchased the property, a mixed-use commercial and residential building is to be built from spring.
The building will be multi-storey and include a parking lot. There should be space for a retail store on the ground floor. The next floor is used for office space, the third floor for residential purposes.
Bloch said this building is part of the city of Marquette’s plan to revitalize Third Street.
The city’s Third Street Corridor Sustainable Development Plan states: âThe Third Street Corridor Plan shows possible locations for both new buildings and building types (living / working, apartments, etc.). This increases the variety of living styles and retail spaces on the street. Retail occupancy is strong with few vacancies. There is an opportunity to continue to market new retail space that supports the character of Third Street and avoids the destructive nature of suburban-style retail. “
Bloch also said that while zoning the property would allow a pharmacy to occupy the building, it was not their intention to have one there.
